As a leader in the nucleic acid delivery technologies, Tekmira intends to maintain its dominance in this area by continuing to identify and protect new formulations and compositions.

The company’s nucleic acid delivery technology is protected within a global intellectual property portfolio comprising approximately 45 patent families.  Of the approximately 370 patents in the portfolio, some 180 have been issued and 190 applications are pending. This portfolio includes broad composition of matter, method of manufacture, and method of use claims.

Much of Tekmira’s IP portfolio can be described as broadly applicable to any indication wherein targeted therapeutic delivery is desired. In addition, the company holds intellectual property concerning the immunostimulatory properties of nucleic acid based drugs and methods of measuring and abrogating these effects.

Tekmira also relies on trade secrets and contracts to protect know-how and non-patented proprietary information.
